Dear Marvin, et al.
I don't understand that thought, i.e. prediction of collectables. To my knowledge, prediction is made only when there is no any disturbance in the flow or in time. In other words, prediction can be considered only when there is no attempt to control the flow. In the case of determining the collectible rugs of future, anyone can see easily that there have been attempts made to control (or to promote attempts in some sense) by many collectors themselves. I mean that collectable rugs of future are highly dependent on your, collectors' today thoughts. So, there is no secret since your decision will shape the rugs of tomorrow.
By the way, there must be many nice rugs woven today, even nicer than some rugs woven some centuries ago. I don't understand why collectors are giving so much credit to antique rugs if they are mostly interested in the aesthetics of rugs rather than their historical aspects. The aesthetic is not very related to the history or to the antiqueness, I think.
