After many years of a fascination with art in general and that of antique tribal rug in particular, I have come to the following conclusions: (1) True art is basically EMOTIONAL COMMUNICATION. The true artist is so moved by a PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that he or she must communicate this to others. Obviously, it must be contemporary! An exhibition by modern painters of poor imitations of Remington late 19th C.works is NOT art. It is pure "Hack", and is just a commercial enterprise from which the painters and I suppose the Phoenix Art Museum hope to profit! The importance of genuine art depends on its emotional message and how many recipients are influenced thereby' It also depends on the artist's mastery of the chosen medium. The great works of art DEMAND your attention!!
