: After many years of a fascination with art in general and that of antique tribal rug in particular, I have come to the following conclusions: (1) True art is basically EMOTIONAL COMMUNICATION. The true artist is so moved by a PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that he or she must communicate this to others. Obviously, it must be contemporary! An exhibition by modern painters of poor imitations of Remington late 19th C.works is NOT art. It is pure "Hack", and is just a commercial enterprise from which the painters and I suppose the Phoenix Art Museum hope to profit! The importance of genuine art depends on its emotional message and how many recipients are influenced thereby' It also depends on the artist's mastery of the chosen medium. The great works of art DEMAND your attention!!

I think this thread started by Niall Leonard has gone off the topic "Books and Literature" a little bit. So, let me too add a post here.

Dear Sam,

You are touching important points such as "true art and art promotions". You say:

"...True art is basically EMOTIONAL COMMUNICATION. The true artist is so moved by a PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that he or she must communicate this to others..."

Considering your long experience, I would like to ask you about if "the ability of Emotional Communication gained by Experience" can be increased significantly comparing to "the inborn ability of Emotional Comm."

Also, you say:

"...The importance of genuine art depends on its emotional message and how many recipients are influenced thereby'..."

I wonder how you will respond me if I have an objection about this part, about your connection of "genuine art" to "the recipient number" which might have been one of reasons of promotions that you mentioned. I don't think there is always a good correlation between "recipient number of people" and "geniune art". To express what I meant more clearly (I have a language barrier), it will be better if I give an example. For example, you as one with long experience in collecting may be equivalent to dozens of novices like me. So, there are some more important recipients and less important recipients in each field. Cordially...

With my best regards,
Erol Abit
