Maud and Steve are right on target: our economic institutions differ in many ways, while there are certain basic elements that deserve tagging as similar or even determinately held in common.

What the NY/Hamptons analogy misses is the _portability_ of wealth in various early cultural types.

Except perhaps for those who haul the same chairs and tables back and forth,
or rely upon the "Credit Mobilier."

Is there doubt that those of us on this board are living in capital economies where wealth no longer resides solely or primarily in the livestock and portable furnishings?

(No dead equity certificate jokes allowed.)
