: Dear Erol,
: I may not be remembering correctly, but I think "Antique Aroma" was the name of a product that gave a rug an antique-like appearance, but didn't give it an odor.
: I think it would be very surprising if rugs had any particularly significant odors, especially after washing and rinsing. Since I've never heard of anyone getting very agitated about the odor ofa rug, I suspect that odor does not have a role in rug appreciation.

Dear Steve,
There are those who claim to be able to tell whether the former owner of a rug was a smoker or not and to refuse to buy those that were. The late Haig Nahigian smoked several packs of cigarettes a day for more than a half century in his retail store, dropping ashes on Soviet era Shirvans and 20'x30' 19th century Tabrizes alike. Any customer who complained was likely to have been thrown out.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. (Excuse me while I refill my pipe.)
Cordially,
-Jerry-
