This is indeed a very deep and difficult topic, but I think it is perhaps the only aspect of rug aesthetics on which some agreement might be reached.
In any event, it is the Alexander-Salingaros thesis that rug design aesthetics can be more or less quantified. I can see many interesting questions develop, but I haven't yet formulated by opinion on the whole process. I do know that I strongly identify with some of the notions expressed, but I still haven't worked through all of it.
I don't think I am asking for a limitation on the discussion. The limitations seem to be inherent in the thesis.
