Just a small point about the descent of the eagle Kazak (=Chelaberd, not in the Kazak district but in Karabagh, in case anybody cares). Christine Close's article in GHEREH is surely the most detailled description of the likely progression from dragon carpets, but the idea that there is such a progression goes back at least 35 years. Schurmann presents it as more or less factual in his book on Caucasian rugs, published in 1965. Similar statements can be found in the descriptive captions to eagle Kazaks in most books since then, too.
