It's time to raise my question based on my response to this rug: nice rug but very crowded. That, in sum, is what I see in South Persian rugs - crowding. The theory to explain this from many books is the horrer of empty space. What is the origin of that theory, and why do these people, presumably nomadic, Muslims, fearful of unfilled space when other nomadic, Islamic peoples elsewhere, e.g. Central Asia, prefer a spacious presentation of there best weaving. In fact it is that space that we Turkomen rug lovers look for and covet. Any answers out there? Marvin
