Purchased this rug because I enjoyed the colors and the way they look different at different times of day and angles. The woman at the local rug shop seemed to have a strong expertise in Persian rugs and could only tell me this was handmade and Turkish.
To me it looks 100% Turkish from Central Anatolia and more specifically, from Kayseri.
This piece should measure around (+\-) 6.5’ x 9’ or 200 x 280 cm. The Kayseri area is well known for producing very high quality rugs such as this. A lot of these rugs stem from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. There are actually some that are sold as new old stock and have never been sold if you can believe that. My wife and I own two (possibly 3) large rugs from Kayseri and will never part with them. It’s a beautiful piece and enjoy!
I’ve included a few similar pics from our rugs.
