  • Chuval ID help needed

This one is confusing for me and to be honest, I don’t have much experience in the Chuval field. At first glance I say Yomud but there are some things on this that make me question that. I have no idea of the general date of it either.

Here are some better pics. Out arrived today and I pleasantly surprised at its condition and the possible older age than I suspected from the bad pics and no info from the previous owner.

      Hi Joe,

The symmetrical knotting, running dog minor border, and the distinctive Yomud minor guls point straight at Yomud for me. The main gul fits, too. I think one thing that throws me a little is the coloration--especially the deep red ground color. I think this is on the later side because I can see on the back a hint of bleeding red in the ivory adjacent to some of that deep red. I am not 100% sure of what I see there, but you have it in hand. So my guess is early 20th-c. on this one.

Thanks for your thoughts Paul. I do like the piece and like all the others, I feel fortunate to be the current steward of this.

          Hi Joe,

Did not read this post during my vacation, but better late than never. It actually reminds me quite a bit of the chuval pair of posted a while back, cf. http://www.turkotek.com/VB56/forum/m...-style-chuvals

          Best,

          Mikko
