  • Flea market find...

Hi dear memebers, I am the 'new' one.... Actually subsribed long, long time ago, but somehow the system forgot me :-). Have a look at my flea market find for 70$. 116x177cm. After cleaning it looks quite decent. A Turkmen (Tekke) main carpet, sides should be restored. Good condition of the pile, no holes, no moth's damage!

    HI Marc,

Yeah, c.1900 Tekke. Offhand, the colors look good. It's smaller than a main carpet, actually, but larger than the "dowry mats." These longer, narrower rugs start appearing at the end of the 19th century.

    Regards,

    Paul

Hello Marc. Outstanding find. It’s amazing what you can find in the weekend flea markets in Switzerland. For a country that is extremely expensive to foreigners, the flea markets are a great chance to find interesting things at reasonable prices.

One of my best finds was a Yomut rug found in a Zurich flea market last year. It too was 70 Franc and we bought it from an elderly lady who had it in her family for about 70 years.
