An Interesting Thanka
Dear folks -
My acquaintance currently traveling in Tibet, continues
to send on-the-road messages.
Today he talked about his wife having a
bout of altitude sickness and his encounter with oriental approaches to
medicine, first hand.
He said that he attended a lecture featuring the
thanka below, said to be based on charts developed 700 years ago.
He says that the
lecturer said that this tree depicts the field of medicine, with the left side
outlining aspects of " healthy physiology" and the right side devoted to
"pathology."
At last: a textile design we may be able to interpret at
some level.
