This is a kind of an aside, to the salon discussion you intend, but this painting
shows a clear example in use of the kind of platform that was also used in Central Asia and that someone referred to in the thread on my "Chodor" fragment.
Note that it appears that a "rug" is being used on it rather than a "divan cover." This is the use I saw the installers of one at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival make near the Turkmen tent where I was working.
