I hadn't encountered the "Viking" hypothesis, but they did seem to get around.

Should we be looking for similarly shaped Scandanavian textiles?

They did, indeed, get around. But sailing the Pacific? It would take a pretty authoritative source with information that's passed professional scrutiny to convince me of that.
