Another Resource Source on Tentbands
Steve -
You likely know, but one other source of resource that might
be useful in this discussion is found on Marla Mallett's web site.
Marla
has been examining Turkmen tent bands in mixed technique, of which your lovely
piece is one, and has, I think, begun to sort things out a bit on the basis of
technical indicators.
I have not be through in any detail what she has
posted on her site, but here is the direct link to the relevant
portion.

I think her
presentation at ICOC X was also a report on her work in this area.
So
these materials and Marla herself will likely be useful in this
discussion.

Hi John,
I have read Marla's work on Turkmen tentbands. It is the
first significant advance in what we know about tentband structure in many
years, and I think it may develop into a rational basis for tribal attribution
of tentbands.
She'll take issue with me for using the conventional
"knots tied over three warps" terminology, but most people understand the
meaning. And she argues from structural details that the Azadi tentband is more
likely to be Saryk than Salor. I have no reason to disagree with that.
