Naively and innocently, I believed it referred to gaps in our knowledge about rugs. Before too long, though, questions formerly too horrible to contemplate were piling up all around - so terribly many. Thus does tragedy dwarf ordinary existence.

Thanks to those of you who were able to spare any thought to this Salon...especially those who are not "regular" contributors. Your contributions were illuminating.

Perhaps we can re-visit this topic when the smoke, literally, has cleared.
