Dear Anyone,

I have, in several posts, been critical of Yon's referring to the location of the "internal elem" in his hypothesis as being in a specific location. In fact, he has referred to the location as being between the first third and the first fourth of the rug - that is, between 25% and 33% of the way up the field. That, I agree, is pretty specific.

I had misunderstood and/or remembered incorrectly, and thought he had placed it anywhere in the lower third or lower fourth of the rug. That, of course, is not very specific.

I would like to apologize to Yon and to anyone who was misled or confused by my incorrect representations of his position.

I also feel very badly about the vanishing messages in our boards. I think I know the cause, and hope to have the fix in place within a day or two.

Steve, somewhat ironically our messages crossed, and unfortunately my message in the other thread will cause you to have to take back your apology...

Sorry about that.

P.S. given the geometry of Turkmen bag-faces, the room that you have to work in if you want to confine something to the one-third to one-quarter area of the field is rather small, with the added difficulty that the weaver may not even know exactly how big the piece will be when finished. You'll say that I am making post-hoc excuses, but I honestly never intended my location designations to be interpreted precisely, which is why I said 'about....'

Regards, Yon

Dear Yon,

I'll leave my apology in place. I probably owe you one for something. I am going to close this thread to further postings, though.

Steve
