The Top 10 Rugs of the Millennium
by Jerry Silverman

In the last couple of weeks I've seen the Top 20 Chicago Cubs of the 20th Century, the Top 100 Athletes of the 20th Century, the Most Important Concepts of the Millennium, and on and on. So it wouldn't be right for the millennium to draw to a close without weighing in on our picks for the best rugs of the last thousand years.

To make it even more interesting, I'll leave the definition of "Top 10" to you. It could refer to the "most significant" or the "most expensive" or the "most ...." You choose. But in choosing, you should support your selections with the criteria you used and why. (This is
beginning to sound like I should be sending each of you a blue book and telling you when to open it and start writing. If that image helps you organize your thoughts, feel free to use it.)

You don't have to pick 10 rugs. One or two would do if they truly merit being included among the "Top Rugs."

The clock is ticking down. The champagne is being iced. The noisemakers are silent, for the moment.

In this calm before the storm let's make our nominations.
