The bold design, the kind of rosette scattered on the field, the rendering of the four "C" motifs, the totemic design into the two appendages as well as the palette and the strong colors led me to think it was from the central western Caucasus. But the structure, even partial, was more like that of eastern Caucasian origin. The colors are natural, strong and saturated madder red with a slight brownish tonality, pinkish madder red in some rosettes, heavily corroded very dark brown in the medachyl internal minor border, various shades of golden yellow to medium brown, natural white, different shades of green made by a mixture of blue and yellow, different shades of blue from light blue and aquamarine to very dark saturated indigo blue. |

The foundations are all wool. Warps and wefts are of white fine 2ply white wool Z2S. The warps are thicker than the wefts and there are two shoots of wefts between each rows of symmetrical knots, there is a very slight depression of alternated warps, around 10°. The knot count is V 36/10cm H 32/10cm 1152/dm2 Considering the condition of the rug no any structural information's can be available concerning the ends and selvedges finishing which would help to make an accurate attribution. Pile height is between 5 and 8 mm were the rug isn't worn. It's handle is floppy and the rug is somewhat heavy for its size. This results probably because the back has been glued, even if I have cleaned it. |
