If I understand you right, "luxury" doesn't fit to nomads. But were not the wealthier of the Turkmens the ones which lived as nomads (and which turned to sedentary agriculturists if impoverished)?
A knotted bag may be of "limited utilitarian value", but heavy Turkmen jewellery is a bit unpractical as well, isn't it?
How do we know whether nomads favoured to travel light over a little bit of luxury?
