Just a couple more comments, then I'll shush up...
Wendel: At the end of that Senneh rug where the design got lengthened, if the problem was warp tension, it would have been that the warp was too LOOSE, rather than too tight.
Patrick: I think that the amount of warp take-up in MOST rugs is so insignificant that we can't attribute a squished or truncated pattern to that...Just poor planning in general.
