Obviously, whether a dye is natural or synthetic does not contribute to its objective property of color. BUT, our opinion of whether a dye is natural or synthetic does contribute to our subjective response to it (for most collectors, at least).
To prove just how completely openminded I am and, in this way, different than most collectors :-), here's a not-very-well reproduced image of a Caucasian prayer rug that I like very much. It has what appears to be a synthetic orange (horrors!) and a tip-faded purple in the palette. On the other hand, it's older than I am (inscribed 1309, which is 1891 AD and consistent with the palette), so it gives me comfort.
