Comparison with older pieces is always interesting, but there would be some serious problems with trying to trace things back to the Pazyryk. One is that the time gap between it and the sorts of things we are accustomed to dealing with is about 2000 years, so there's no telling what intermediates between it and anything else might have come and gone. Another, a really big problem, is that the source of the Pazyryk is uncertain. It really deserves a full Salon of discussion, and I hope we'll do that soon.
