What a wonderful topic. The word "addict" is more appropriate
for this novice here because I don't see myself as a collector.

I may, at some day, go in that direction -- for the time being,
however, it doesn't make sense for me to buy for the purpose of
collecting.

I wonder, at what point, does a novice addict become a collector?
I am not at that juncture yet, so I admit that I'm unsure what it
will mean when I buy for specific purposes rather than exploration.

I'm curious if people ever decide early in their addiction that "I will
collect X type of rugs" early in their exploration and attempt to become
collectors early in their journey.

I'm also interested in hearing from the more experienced folks
on this board how they made the transition from basic rug
junky to becoming a collector with a more refined sense of purpose,
direction and taste.

Where did you begin? Are you in a different place than you imagined
being at the beginning of your exploration into rugs? In what ways
have your interests changed?
