Dear Yon,

My interpretation of Stephen Louw's question was that he was asking what future mainstream collectors might be collecting. That is, what will be the equivalent of what the Turkmen, Belouch, etc. rugs are to contemporary mainstream collectors? There are, and probably always will be, a few collections of almost anything (airsickness bags are my current favorite illustration of this). That doesn't make "almost anything" collectible, though, except in the most trivial sense.

I do not believe Afghan war rugs will be future collectibles. In fact, I doubt that there will be many new collectors of these things once the present generation has passed. If I'm mistaken, it won't be the first time (or the last, I'm sure), but that's how I see things right now.

Regards,

Steve Price
