To respond, though, to Yon's thought above, I wonder if his notion that errors of omission (not buying the "rare" piece when you had the chance) are the greater ones, is advice that the "novice" collector can take. One of the problems for the novice is that too much of the material he/she encounters likely looks attractive and the novice can often not yet recognized true rarity. I think your reversal of this often quoted rule is better advice, if it is in fact the better rule, for experienced collectors such as yourselves.
