I am voting for Living With Kilims by Alastair Hull and Nicholas Barnard. This is a perfect book for a novice collector because it shows how tribal flatweaves can be used to enhance the decor of normal people's homes. It exposes the reader to a wide range of textiles, not just kilims, and it avoids alot of intimidating or overly "scholarly" text.
This is the first book I buy for people that I want to develop an interest in rugs.
