: : Dear Marvin,
: : Eiland's general book isn't on my list because I don't own a copy. The reason I don't own one is that by the time I discovered its existence I was not buying general survey books unless they were very inexpensive, which it is not.
: : My list is not exhaustive, of course, but I think it gives a beginner/student a pretty good start. And all of the books on it are fairly modestly priced, a very important consideration to someone who isn't sure yet just how far he/she wants to go, rug-wise.
: : Regards,
: : Steve Price
: Steve, and Jerry
: I have found the book Tribal Rugs by Jenny Housego to be surprisingly comprehensive, insightful and inexpensive. I do not think it has been updated since it was originally published, but I believe it was ahead of its time.
As might be expected, Steve's reading list is well-suited to the needs of his students, especially given his attention to price. But at $52.50 from Amazon.com the Eiland and Eiland "Oriental Carpets: A Complete Guide" deserves a place as well.
Penuriously,
-Jerry-
