Robert's comments reminded me of a conversation with a Turkish dealer who expressed astonishment that I would consider washing a slit-tapestry Eastern Anatolian bag face because the white cotton areas would then be so brilliant! So NEW looking! We've seen Anatolian kilims mounted and hung in museum shows with the white cotton caked with mud.....So that 17th century dates would be more acceptable?
