: Dear Folks,

: As part of the 1990 ICOC, Michael Craycraft and Anne Halley mounted an exhibition of Belouch rugs, 76 in all. They also invited attendees to select the 5 they liked best and the 5 they liked least, and to identify themselves as Belouch collectors, rug collectors, dealers, etc. There were 228 respondents.

: One of the interesting outcomes was that the different categories of people expressed different preferences. This isn't too surprising, I suppose. After all, some preferred to be Belouch collectors, others didn't. Still, it illustrated very nicely how much variation there can be even among subgroups of rug enthusiasts.

: For anyone interested in the details, they can be found in HALI #59, p. 112-117 (1991).

: Regards,

: Steve Price

Steve, if I remember that article accurately, one bagface was chosen as #1 or 2 by both collectors and dealers. This suggests that there is some common ground between the two. Marvin
