Dear Erol,

Rugs do have odors. All you have to do is stick your nose into one to, you will smell it. The odors have nothing to do with the rug's aesthetic or ethnographic appeal, and (to this collector, at least) are irrelevant. I believe the same to be true of all other collectors.

If you, or anybody else, has evidence that there are collectors whose preferences are influenced by the odors of particular kinds of rugs, come forth with it. Ignore the trivial examples like rugs that stink because of mildew, or because a dog vomited on it, etc. If you are suggesting that I ought to investigate the topic, I think it would be a complete waste of time. My list of time wasting activities is too long to warrant adding another.

Regards,

Steve Price
