Dear Marvin and Everyone,
Jean (my wife) and I approach our textiles quite differently. She tends not to get into the details of attribution and such, but reacts almost exclusively to aesthetics and is able to make what turn out to be excellent (in my view) aesthetic-based decisions very rapidly. I tend to pay more attention to what we might loosely think of as the peripheral aspects (where is it from? how old? how does it compare with others of the type with which I am familiar?) before I can focus on the purely aesthetic elements. It is very unusual for me to find fault with her aesthetic judgments, but it takes me longer to arrive at what are usually the same conclusions.
It is very unusual for me to buy a textile that she has not seen and endorsed, although I have run into some "no-brainers" (obvious, easy decisions) in her absence occasionally.
Incidentally, Nathan (our 7 year old) also has a few pieces, and has pretty good judgement for a kid. I don't let him shop on eBay, though.
