Dear Marvin and Friends,

Alan Nagel's point, and my followup to it, are little more than simple logic applied to rather well known facts. Every knowledgable rug enthusiast is aware that attributions have an element of uncertainty. We generally don't state the uncertainties explicity, which is OK for conversational convenience. However, this leads newcomers to Rugdom to think that attributions are almost absolutely accurate if done properly, which isn't the case at all. Even pretty sophisticated collectors and dealers forget this from time to time.
