I think most people would just call this Khamseh. I do not see Afshar in this piece at all. I also would not believe that date for even one heartbeat. The colors are not consistent with early bags from this area. Note the cool red as merely one example. I would conclude early 20th century and also find it lacking in color range relative to the earlier types. Finally, the medallion is highly stylized, stiff and too degenerate. If the piece is difficult to specify it is probably more a function of its time of manufacture, local circumstances and its possible place as a copy or reproduction piece.
