: Dear Irwin,
: Perhaps he can have his cake and eat it too. The rug was sold to a Moslem. On the other hand, I've never been convinced that pile "prayer" rugs were used for prayer unless they were a gift to a mosque, or left there as floor covering for prayer.

Dear Marvin:

According to a couple of Iranian sources that I have contacted, pile rugs were used extensively for prayer in Iran. In Turkey, kilims were preferred. Obviously, this is not a scientific survey, and perhaps someone would like to shed additional light on this subject.

Regards,
Irwin
