: Here's another idea for sessions at the major conferences: In-depth tutorials or surveys of various topics (this is a not uncommon practice at some scientific conferences). Even if not containing previously unpublished material, such tutorials would be very helpful to non-specialists who are not aware of the scattered material available in the literature. A typical topic may be the identification of Turkoman rugs (yes, we all know the Tekkes and Salors, but where is the information on Kizil Ayak or the various Eagle-gul groups?), or classification of Safavid rugs, or carbon dating, etc.
: Regards, Yon
Yon has a good suggestion as long as it's labelled "tutorial" and not disquised another lecture. Meetings in which I have participated have had continuing education conferences immediately before or after the main conference; they work quite well. marvin
