Another flatwoven “salanchak” has surfaced as a result of this discussion, courtesy of Harold Keshishian. This is clearly Yomud and is in a familiar brocade technique. Heavily worn, it is nevertheless before us and in a structure that is familiar as well as with a design that is consistent with other Yomud weavings.
Measuring 4.1 x 3.1, it is of approximately the same size and the others referred to in the discussion. The sides are finished with a four-cord selvedge, but there are no remnants of strapping cords. Cotton is the white used in the patterning and the warp is fine and light, possibly goat hair. There is a red in it which may be synthetic.
I don’t think we resolved what these are used for, but here is another flatwoven one. Remember what I said in the initial posting about being hesitant to call anything unique?
