Sunday Stuff

Hi John,

That tent band that Wendel showed you rang a bell. Here's an image showing a somewhat more recent version from somewhere in northern Afghanistan:

Regards,
Chuck

Thanks, Chuck.

Wendel will be glad to hear of it.

Any further information about it?

Regards,

Hello Chuck -

The camels on your tent band seem to be single-humped. The ones on the Mystery Band were double-humped (Bactrian). Might that suggest that the two bands originated in different places?

Curious!

Lloyd

Hi Lloyd -

That would seem likely. If I understand the Bacterian two hump types tend to be used in markedly northern areas although there seems to be quite an overlap.

Harold Keshishian has a large flatweave with lots of camels that has both types.

I think single-humped types are still seen in photos of Western Turkmen traveling and they are north of Afghanistan.

So not sure how closely we can read this indicator. Maybe some who have traveled in these areas will know.

But good eye.
