We found a long time rug seller and collector in Ankara recently. Although we didn’t buy anything, it was amazing to see his collection. Some items I’ve never seen nor even knew existed. The following pics are from his private collection and are not for sale.
Take note of the small Tekke Heybe. Under it is a shoe for size comparison. This was made for a child and is very tightly woven.
Here is an odd pair. What are these? These were made to store the wool cutting shearers.
I really love the Asmalyk. He has had this for years and it appears to be all original. This had a twin and it was sold years ago. I asked why he split them up and he said the demand wasn’t what it was at the height of collecting/buying post 1980.
Today you cannot find nor reproduce the colors of the tassels. In fact, 100% wool is extremely hard to find on the open market in Türkiye due to the changing consumer demand. We found some, but it wasn’t easy.
