  • Tent band?

I have no idea what this is and cannot even take a guess to where it comes from. It’s a section of about 8 feet that has been sectioned and it’s about 15 inches wide. It came out of Switzerland and that is my only knowledge of the piece.

    Hi Joe,

That appears to be a segment of an Uzbek tent band, the motifs, colors, and manner of construction very typical. Sometimes such pieces are cut and pieced together to make something with carpet dimensions, then referred to as a "gujeri". Full sized and uncut, they are used to hold together a yurt frame, as well as provide decoration on the interior side of the yurt coverings.

      Hi Chuck,

Aren't Uzbek tent bands woven in warp substitution weave? This appears to be in weft substitution.

        Hi Joel,

That is a warp-substitution structure. Note that the long axis of the minor border runs parallel to that of the floating yarn. Ditto for the one I've posted:

          Hi Chuck,

I saw that yours is warp-substitution, but still don't see it in the OP.
