Hello everyone,
My name is Bob Schedler, and I would be very happy if someone can have look at the attached fotos of my rugs, and identify them for me. They are numbered 1 through 6 .... 1 could be a Kaschmir (?), 2 a Shiraz, 3 and 4 I don't know, 5 a Moroccan, and 6 from the Punjab (60/40 cotton/silk.

Secondly, No. 6 has a red wine stain (darker area in the centre). Can it be removed, and how?

Hi Bob,

To me, #3 looks like a typical mid-20th century Tekke rug, most probably made in the Turkmenistan SSR.

Best,

Mikko

Hi Mikko,

I agree. It looks like a 'Russian Bokhara' as it is called on the market.

#2 reminds me of a Luri.

The others I don't know. Too new to be identifiable, I think.

Hi Bob,

About the wine stains: you could try to wet the spots (try first on a small area) with neutral detergent diluted in cold water, then blot dry with a clean white rag.
If it works, repeat the process.
Then sponge with cold water to remove the detergent.
Brush gently the pile fibers in the same direction of the surrounding ones.
Let it dry with air circulation.
Regards,

Filiberto

Hi Bob,

As you might have already figured out, most of these have to be guessed at.

My sense:
1) Afghan Ghazni-type rug, modern rugs styled after older Caucasian rugs, post-1960 I suspect
2) Shiraz region, Qashqai, maybe Luri, modern, maybe Q3 1900's
3) Turkmenistan, mid-1900s
4) Northern Iran, modern, 1960-1980 maybe
5) ?? Morocco ? maybe; I would have guessed Turkey, but who knows. Modern.
6) Not enough detail to judge. We would need to see closeups of the back, edges, ends, and the pile to narrow down choices. Could be Iran, India, China. Looks like the image is a composite - or the rug has been cut.

Will try - the stain is pretty old. Thanks

For recent accidents and still-wet spots of e.g. red wine, plenty of table salt on the stain is a time-tested first aid!

Testing too.

Warning - some of the threads, including the most recent from Mikko, and also some in the Miscellaneous section don't open.
Steve is looking into the problem.
Please be patient.
