Hello all,
This is going back a while now (2006) but I saw a discussion thread on here about Baluch rugs and Jerry Anderson's interpretation of them. I may not have any information to discuss rugs but I'm wondering if you can help with with information about Jerry in general as he was my grandfather. I would love to hear from you if you have any information! I noticed a 'Gene Williams' had said he had met him. Sorry to have to post an unrelated thing on here but I wasn't sure how else to contact. If you have any information at all it would be lovely to hear and hugely appreciated. If so, please email me muffin.katie@hotmail .co.uk

Hi Katie,
I just e-mailed Gene on that. Hope his e-mail address still works.

Kate, this is Gene Williams. I had the pleasure of knowing Jerry Anderson for 3 1/2 years in the 1970's. He introduced me to rugs...and indeed personally identified every rug I own. I have pictures of him in Karachi and of his two kids (your father or mother?) when they were young (I visited his former wife - your grandmother - in October 1978 on Guernsey). And I have a small collection of letters...others have more - he was a prolific correspondent.
I've often thought of writing up my observations on this very unique character in the Pakistan and rug world, which I'll probably do over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime I'll post some photos here and will contact you on your e-mail.
Jerry lived for several years 1975-78 with Raymond Woodhead, a half boer, half Anglo South African Britisher, who was as an intelligent and interesting a man as one could find. Unfortunately Raymond has opted to go "dark" on the web though family members can still be traced. And a number of Baluch still remember him...I discussed him with relatives of the Khan of Kalat in Quetta in 2008.

Hi Gene,
Good to hear from you again, and glad to see that you intend to prepare some material - I think that would be a very worthwhile endeavor.
Cheers,

To Turkotek, I've tried to contact Katie on her email. No response. I'll still write something about him. And the story of this man is still as confusing as his scatological letters. At least I was around him enough (4xweek for 176 weeks) to be able to interpret some of what he was writing..
I'll give you an example. Tom Cole wrote that Jerry said he traveled up into the Hazara lands and was turned back by "Amazons." Jerry always felt the story of "Amazons" from Greek culture came out of Greek contact with the Scythians...the Scythians shaved...the Greeks felt their opponents must have been women. Well, Hazaras are descendants form Ghengis Khan and have very scanty beards.
I was in Quetta in Spring 2008. There is a large Christian cemetery there. I suspect Jerry's father is buried there. I was prevented from visiting the cemetery. I also suspect Jerry is buried in the Christian cemetery in Karachi. I may be able to confirm this.
