Weaving a carpet

Some years ago I got the idea of trying weaving a carpet:
with my father I built a small loom and I succeeded in weaving small
pile carpets for the sake of better understating the practical
problems involved and the differences in result using cotton or wool
weft and warp as well as symmetric or Senneh knots.

extremely appealing so I decided to try to weave it myself.

This is definitely a bigger and more complex endeavour than anything I did
before: with my wife, so far, we
are drawing a precise blue print of the carpet,
that I can share if anyone would be interested.

The tricky part would be finding similar material and more detailed information
on Balikesir weaving technique: this is where your knowledge could help me.

Wow! That sounds like a fantastic project. You must keep us informed and include many pictures of your progress.

I have no knowledge of Caucasian methods (other than those regularly documented) but could recommend a book if you were to choose a Tibetan carpet instead.

i fell in love with a catalog piece in the past, and living in turkey, i was able to track down some people who could actually weave it for me for the very dimensions i wanted. the original plan was to have it woven from antique wool (old undyed kilim wool which is mostly used for restorations and repairs after proper dying), but i had no control of the production and the material was not nearly as good as i was promised. (i live in istanbul, weaving was done in sultanhani) and eventhough it does not have the charismatic aged look of my older ones, it is still one of my favorites.

as soon as i can find some time to go through my library, i will let you know of anything i may find on balikesir production techniques.

I am turkish, and I live in istanbul, so for me it was just picking it up from a local bookstore.

yet, if you do online banking, most banks' web platforms today will allow you to create a "virtual credit card", this can be arranged to be used only once for a specific amount, and even if all the information on it was to be compromised, it wouldn't matter as you could cancel the card right after the purchase.
